Is there a more satisfying family dinner than pizza? We have some form of pizza on the meal plan almost weekly, and NO ONE EVER COMPLAINS ON PIZZA NIGHT! Can I get an amen for that? We have three kids with very different personalities, and while none are what I’d call “picky”, they are definitely opinionated. Homemade sheet pan pizza is a winner-winner-no-one’s-whining-dinner. AMEN!
We love pizza. We love sheet pan meals. It’s only natural we’d love a good sheet pan pizza recipe. I turned to Pinterest long ago for inspiration, but I never found “the one”. I was constantly tweaking the recipes that were out there to meet our needs.
-It had to be thick, but not dense.
-It had to be crispy, but also chewy.
-The dough had to be stretchy enough to fill up a 12 x 18 sheet pan without too much effort.
-And when you click on a “sheet pan pizza” recipe… it has to have an actual recipe for PIZZA DOUGH!
So, after many attempts for the perfect sheet pan pizza dough recipe, we’re consistently nailing this one.

I prefer to let my bread machine do the mixing (#lazy), but you could use a stand mixer with a dough hook or <gasp> your own hands.
Another shortcut I use is instant yeast, so there’s no proofing involved.
Dump all the ingredients into bread machine, mixer, or a big mixing bowl, and let your tool of choice mix until the dough forms into a nice ball. In the bread machine, it takes about 7-8 minutes. I keep a close watch on it. If it’s sticking to the sides, add a bit more flour until it pulls away easily. If it’s not coming together, add a spoonful of water at a time until it sticks.
After you have a solid dough ball, put it in a warm place and let it rise for about 30 minutes, until it’s doubled in size. I usually just turn the dough cycle off and leave in the bread machine to rise (#fewerdishes)
Once the dough is nice and fluffy, preheat your oven to 450 degrees.
Spray a sheet pan (this is the ideal size) with cooking spray, or grease with olive oil, OR line with parchment (OR use a silicone baking sheet, which is what we do.) I like to sprinkle a bit of cornmeal across the bottom for authenticity.
Now work the dough until it stretches evenly across the pan and up the sides. Use your hands to smoosh, squeeze, and wiggle it into submission. I like to use my fingertips around the edges.
Then take a fork and poke some holes in the dough.
Top that baby with whatever your pizza hopes and dreams are made of. My family chose pepperoni, peppers, and pineapple for this particular pizza night. I know. Strange, but delicious. My kids LOVE to help with the toppings part.
Pop it in the oven and bake for about 20 minutes. Cheese melty enough? Cool. Pull it out. Like it a little browner? You do you. (Set a timer though. Don’t blame me when it comes out burnt.)
Grab a pizza slicer (or kitchen shears) and slice it up.
Serve. Let the compliments to the chef pour in.
NOTE: This pizza serves our family of 5 with leftovers for lunch the next day (usually!). If you’re not big eaters, you could totally freeze part of it for a future pizza night! Or half the dough and use a smaller pan.

Sheet Pan Pizza (With Homemade Dough Recipe)
Equipment
- Sheet pan
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (480 grams)
- 1 ¼ cup warm water
- 4 ½ tsp instant yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
- In bread machine or mixer with dough hook (yes, you can do it with your hands), add flour, ONE CUP of water (reserve a quarter cup), yeast, salt, sugar, garlic powder, and olive oil.
- Use dough cycle to mix for 5-6 minutes, until it forms into a ball that pulls away easily from the sides of mixing vessel. If it's not coming together, add a tablespoon of water at a time until it sticks together. If it's too sticky, add a bit of flour at a time until you reach your desired consistency. Cover and let rise in a warm spot (I just close the bread machine lid) for about 30 minutes, until it doubles in size.
- Once the dough is ready, preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- Grab your sheet pan and use a silicone baking mat, parchment paper, or a healthy spritz of cooking spray. Work the dough until it stretches to each corner. Use your fingertips to create a crust up the sides. Poke the dough with a fork several times.
- Layer on sauce, toppings, and cheese.
- Bake about 20 minutes. Check to see if the cheese is melted to your desired consistency. Return to oven in necessary.
- When it's done baking, let it rest about five minutes before slicing.
