This spinach-packed smoothie packs a Hulk-sized punch of green goodness into any snack time or breakfast routine. Paired with creamy avocado, zesty lime juice, slightly sweet banana, and omega-rich chia and flax seeds, we think it’s a “superhero” in our smoothie world.
Every time we get on a smoothie kick in our family, I’m not sure why we ever stopped. There are a million reasons why smoothies (especially spinach smoothies) are incredible.

My kids will eat ANYTHING in a smoothie.
I’m not gonna name names… but I’ll just say some of my kids are “better” eaters than others. That’s not to say they don’t love specific fruits and veggies, but at least one of my kiddos will literally eat anything you put in front of them (quinoa, lentils, broccoli, avocados, asparagus, any kind of bean, kale, etc.) Another will follow anything said child does. The third, while they don’t flat-out refuse those foods, they don’t exactly request them on the meal plan.

So when we’re going through a more challenging phase of getting in lots of fruits and veggies, I turn to smoothies. Seriously, I can throw four cups of organic spinach, chard, or kale in a smoothie (with no sweeteners other than fruit) and all three of mine happily slurp their cups dry.

For some reason when I think of smoothies, I tend to roll my eyes and think about how much time they take to make. I’m not sure where I latched on to this concept. I use my cheap little Bella personal blender and as long as I give it a good rinse as soon as it’s empty, it’s no trouble to clean. Here are some similar small blenders on Amazon.
Smoothies are allergy/ food-intolerance friendly
Whether you have a dairy, gluten, tree-nut, or another allergy, you can tailor your ingredients to your needs. Easy peasy. Limey-squeezy.
Hulk Smash Superhero Spinach Smoothie Step-by-Step
We call this the “Hulk Smash” smoothie for obvious reasons. Its perfectly green hue, its superhero-worthy ingredients… you get the idea. My oldest says their nutritionist at school calls any smoothie with both fruits and veggies a “superhero” smoothie. When you name a dish something fun and kid-friendly, I believe you’re setting yourself up for a #momwin. (or dad, grandma, auntie, etc. 😉 ) While I’m not totally against hiding veggies in dishes, I try to be as transparent as possible. “Spinach is good for our bodies because it does x,y, and z,” etc.

You’ll need one ripe avocado and one ripe banana. You can use a frozen banana or add a few ice cubes if you like a frosty smoothie.

Add 2-3 cups packed baby spinach. Just give it a good smoosh down.

We’re also adding 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt (can use non-dairy, Greek, low fat, whole milk, etc. or plain with a squirt of honey), the juice of 1-2 limes (about 2 tablespoons), and a cup of cold water (can add more if you think it’s too thick)
I like to round it out with a giant scoop each of organic ground flaxseed and chia seeds. These are optional but each adds some unique health benefits.

Cap off your blender and blend until it reaches your desired consistency. Our little blender holds about 20 ounces, so we get about four 5-ounce servings, which is the perfect snack size for little hands. Of course, you could do two 10-ounce servings or three 6.7-ounce servings ;), etc.

Survey says
Our family gave it a 4/5. Daddy generally liked it but said it was “too green” for him, but all three kiddos drained their cups!

Note the paper straws look cute for pictures, but we had to switch to silicone to get it to suction effectively 😉 )

If you’re expecting something super sweet, this spinach smoothie recipe probably isn’t for you, but if you’re looking for a new green drink chock full of goodness, give it a try! (BONUS: If you need more for your smoothie fix, check out the “Smoothie” category in this Oatmeal Recipe Roundup post.
